I carved this for my boyfriend, Adam - ~Dusk101, a few weeks ago while I was staying at my friends for the week puppy-sitting.

A lot of blood and sweat went into this, purely because I caught my finger between the wood and chisel at one point and the sun was blazing hot. viva la sunstroke!

I'm pretty proud of this tiki. It's my 2nd attempt at carving and a world better than my first tiki.

'E Hoomau Maua Kealoha' means 'May our love last forever'
Which'll be inscribed on the back of it.
The shading and the inscription will be added once I get a hold of my grandfather's pyrography kit.

Theres some more photos of the tiki in my scraps along with a badly photoshopped one with shading

It wasn't the tool that got me actually... I somehow managed to get my little finger trapped between the wood and the chisel as I was trying to strip the bark off it. Stupid here didn't realize and thwacked it causing 2 rather impressive blood blisters and bruising.
Always good to have war wounds though.. a good conversation subject when things get dull :P

hmm yes, your fingers will learn to stay clear in time. for the primitive style, this old carver recommends primitive tools. the adze, the drawknife, and especially the bent knives of the pacific northwest tribes.

Great start!! Go deeper with you cuts (in the wood) and the shapes you want will have better definition. Be careful tikis thirst for blood! Keep going.
